Orlando…’04

I just really like this picture…we had just finished a show at the Orlando Improv. Walking back to the hotel (The Grand Bahamian - sweet)…a couple of people who were at the show asked us to have a drink. They were really cool…We look happy and mellow and rested and have colourful shirts on…When you travel a lot you often wear the same clothes, and both of those shirts, and all the places and times we wore them, are burned into my brain for eternity at this point…
This was great week. Our friend Gary ran the club…it always made for a fun week when we knew the owner/manager..
I think it was the second show of the week, we were sitting in the green room after the show and the door burts open. Standing there is a guy with long hair. He’s wearing aviators, tight jeans and a white ‘wife beater’ tank top. He opens with a loud “Duuuuude!!” followed by a crazy drunken laugh and a huge smile…”Heeedbeerrrg!! - what’s happening?!”
Mitch shot me a look of “can we deal with this guy?”…not knowing if we could match this fan’s energy….or want to.
His name was Aaron and immedialty we fell in love with him..he was just so happy to hang out that we couldn’t refuse his offer to “party man!”. It took a while before he told us he was the bass player for Kid Rock, and even then we weren’t sure if we had heard him correctly. In a matter of minutes we were outside, cruising along the side walk - a bunch of us. I looked ahead and saw Aaron and Mitch arm in arm, talking fast and walking fast towards some bar…they looked like brothers in a way.
Anway. We had fun and had a new friend who showed up to every show that week. He even brought his Dad to one….yelling out to Mitch during the show….
We saw Aaron and his girlfriend Courtney and othe members of his band several times after that. In different cities, different shows. They always treated us so sweet. Mitch was always working and I had really wanted to be able to see Aaron play - he invited us to many shows, but we were always working. The few times where we got to enjoy other people’s performence were so rare but I love it…One time Mitch and I happened to be passing Albany, NY on the night he was performing and managed to swing by the tour bus and say ‘hi’after the show - but that was it. I know Mitch liked it when other artists and musicians liked his comedy…..from one artist to another, y’know?
Mitch always considered stand-up an art form…..
(and I want you all to think about that before you buy any hacky, bull shit comedy CDs from now on… note from: Lloyd)
