Hey. I just want to thank everybody who introduced themselves to me over the weekend in Austin, San Marcos and Houston at the shows.. Stanhope’s audience is very cool…and friendly. I’m feeling a little worse for wear but had a blast. Stanhope blows my mind…to watch him do an hour of material I haven’t heard before (he only did like one or two bits from his Showtime Special) is both intimidating and inspiring. He’s just great, y’know?
I don’t think anyone realizes just how insane that is. To put it in perspective…it usually takes a good comedian several years to write their first GOOD 45 minutes.
It was great to hang with Chaille, Stanhope and Ben and Ville from The Mattoid (they are amazing!). My sets were weak…but the rick shaw rides, bed and breakfast near misses and just being in the chaos did me good. Three days of getting my head back into some original thinking and talking with the crazies is just what the doctor ordered. If, in fact, doctors actually gave orders like ‘go hang out with degenerate and brilliant people’.
Leaving Houston yesterday in a cab to go to the airport:
I asked the cab driver to stop at a gas station so I can use the ATM. I’m feeling tired and a little insane. I get some cash and head back outside in a bit of a daze. Next thing I know I am sitting in a SUV next to a toddler in a car seat as a worried father yells ‘no!’. Wrong car. Ooops. I mumble ’sorry’ and exit fast and get into my cab. I tell Chaille this story over the phone today - he laughs and says ‘if the Dad had shot you he would have been well within his rights’…..man, having a fuzzy brain in your head can sure be dangerous, but I recommend it every time. Todos los tiempos.
The calendar will be available for sale on Mitch’s site later today (some tech difficulties).
(Hey to Lulu, Meatsticks, Lil’ Mikee, J&D for being there and being nice).
Love Lynn
